Bathroom Renovation Spotlight: How to Create a Serene Aesthetic

Often inspired by ‘a day spa’ aesthetic, a serene bathroom renovation evokes a minimalist and calming palette that transforms a bathroom into a haven. The serene bathroom design conjures clean, classic, and incredibly relaxing feelings, resulting in a breathtakingly tranquil finish.

With a harmonising colour palette, standout wood features combined with good quality marble, Novale’s recent bathroom renovation in Newcastle generates a sense of poise inside this suburban home and screams the serene aesthetic.

To give you some bathroom renovation ideas, we’ve broken down how the elements in this serene bathroom renovation work to inspire your dream bathroom renovation.

Glass Shower Screen

While glass shower screens are no longer a one-size-fits-all option, with many curved or geometric designs and stunning metallic or coloured frames available, but for a serene aesthetic, a totally frameless shower screen was ideal for this bathroom renovation Newcastle.

A frameless shower is composed of thick and unobstructed glass, secured to the wall with unobtrusive metal clamps for a minimalist aesthetic. Plus, since the whole glass panel is visible, there are no tight corners for dirt to build up, making frameless shower screens quick and straightforward to clean.

A glass shower screen gives a clean, light, and uncomplicated aesthetic in a bathroom. The uncluttered glazing of frameless shower screens opens the room up and allows more light in. As there is no need for empty floor space to allow for the door’s trajectory without a shower door, making the area appear and feel larger in this bathroom renovation Newcastle.

Frameless shower screens don’t fight for attention with other design components in a bathroom, which is a valuable bathroom renovation idea for smaller spaces. The glass shower screen in this bathroom renovation Newcastle allows other material choices and defining features in the room to stand out, like the eye-catching bathroom vanity and mirror with wood features.

Eye-Catching Bathroom Vanity & Mirror with Wood Features

The overabundance of bathroom vanity materials makes choosing the ideal one a bit of a brain twister. Luckily since bathroom surfaces aren’t subjected to the same level of abuse as kitchen surfaces, homeowners can focus more on aesthetics and price than strength.

For a warm and natural appeal, wood is hard to beat as this versatile raw material makes a stunning bathroom renovation idea with any decor.

Surrounding a plain mirror with a beautiful frame is a unique bathroom renovation idea with unlimited possibilities. In this bathroom renovation Newcastle, the clean lines are echoed in the modest yet beautiful wooden mirror. With a custom-built mirror, valuable storage is created by using the dead space from behind ordinary mirrors.

Chrome Tapware

Choosing a finish for tapware and fixtures is a difficult task for many homeowners. As a helpful bathroom renovation idea, it’s best to acquire all fixtures and accessories in the same material and finish for a consistent colour scheme throughout the space. Some finishes, such as chrome and most brushed-nickel finishes, have a standard colour, but not all finishes from various firms appear the same.

Chrome tapware was a no-brainer for creating a serene aesthetic in this bathroom renovation Newcastle. The timeless style of silver creates a clean and long-lasting tapware finish and makes coordinating other bathroom accessories and fixtures easy as chrome goes with everything!

Mixing Materials

To give this bathroom renovation Newcastle depth and intrigue, the designers mixed a variety of natural materials. The mixture of materials serves as a focal point with contrasting and complementing wood features, marble stone tiles, chrome, and plenty of plants for a pop of colour.

The coldness of the polished metal and marble tiles contrasts with the warmth of the wood basin. The straight lines of the bespoke wood vanity provide a warm touch whilst complimenting the rounded metal features. While black and grey accents give a touch of industrial style to this serene scheme.

Usually, metal tapware, mirrors and sinks stick out like a sore thumb, but our designers were careful in this bathroom renovation Newcastle and chose round features to create a more subtle aesthetic.

Projects in the Works: Atrium Health

Established in 1987, Atrium Health is a Charlotte-based nonprofit health system with a longstanding history of providing leading-edge care throughout the Charlotte regions. As the population continues to climb in local counties, Atrium Health’s chief financial officer, Gene Woods says, “Improvements to CMC (Carolinas Medical Center) are a big focus for Atrium because the flagship facility is expected to reach capacity in five years.” To keep up with the community’s growing needs, Atrium Health put plans in motion to improve and expand their facilities in the Charlotte region.

With a substantial amount of site and infrastructure upgrades to take place across multiple locations, it was paramount for Atrium Health’s design group to keep the construction process as lean as possible from the project’s onset. With this in mind, they enlisted SurePods to assist in attacking the project enterprise-wide and prefabricate bathroom pods for multiple campus facilities. The scope included the design and prefabrication of pods for the Carolinas Rehabilitation Facility, as well as more than 400 pods for Phase 2 of the project, the flagship CMC Bed Tower.

Supporting the firm’s single-standard-approach, SurePods’ prefabricated construction methods allowed builders and designers from Atrium Hospitals to collaborate and agree on a consistent, efficient bathroom design to achieve economy of scale. This creative challenge was further aided by SurePods’ in-house team, who provided coordination, resolved design issues and helped with material selection. As a result of this collaborative effort, the hospitals are designed with consistent bathrooms, an outcome with a secondary benefit for healthcare workers. “Maintaining the same bathrooms and patient rooms in every hospitable was important so that staff could move easily between different sites,” said Scott MacLeod, Project Director at DPR.

Beyond design outcomes, healthcare facilities like Atrium function as a critical piece of infrastructure, especially in times of tremendous population growth. However, in areas like Charlotte that are experiencing a skilled labor shortage, even the most urgent construction projects can potentially undergo delays. This is another reason why healthcare settings can benefit from prefab construction’s ability to put control back in the hands of the builder—namely, by improving quality and productivity when the market doesn’t have capacity. “Prefabrication allows us to build in parallel, which improves our schedule. Working with packaged units with a single company also offer more control over outcomes than traditional construction. This is huge when it comes to eliminating damages in the field by other trades,” explained MacLeod. “We’re able to build faster and better to serve communities on a wider scale.”

While the prefabricated pods’ ability to help accelerate construction timelines is already shaping up to be advantageous for the multi-phase, enterprise-wide project, so too is their ability to address changing market conditions. “You can build the pods in advance and store them until it’s time for installation,” said MacLeod. “This simplifies logistics and can also provide more control over volatile market conditions by mitigating risk to material availability and escalating prices.”

With strategic updates to Atrium Health facilities already underway, local residents can expect to see grand openings start as early fall 2022 and extend through 2026.

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas For Older Homes

The thought of Bathroom Remodeling Virginia Beach VA evokes images of bright walls and marble countertops. Although it is often subconscious, we are drawn to beautiful bathrooms carefully designed to fulfill individual needs perfectly. Many factors go into making a bathroom that makes you happy every time you look at it during the shower. Bathroom renovations can cost as little as you allow, and without a strong financial budget, ongoing costs can spiral.Bathroom Remodeling

Bathroom renovations can be broken down into the three main categories of bathroom remodeling: upgrading your plumbing, replacing outdated fixtures, or adding new fixtures and tile. Upgrading your plumbing involves adding new faucets and fixtures, purchasing new pipes and/or drains, or even changing the existing ones. This can be done on your own, through a licensed contractor, or by hiring a do-it-yourself plumbing contractor. In some cases, such as in older homes, it may be necessary to replace the pipes and drains themselves. Bathroom tile is also a common component of bathroom remodeling, whether it be replacing tile in a tile bathtub or installing a tile backsplash. Bathroom tile can come in a variety of styles, colors, and types, depending on your personal preference and the decorating style of the room.

Tile is the most common element of any bathroom remodeling project, even in small bathrooms which may not utilize all of the space available. Bathroom tiles are available in many different types, sizes, and designs, including travertine, ceramic tile, granite, limestone, marble, and bathroom wall tiles. Bathroom tile can also be installed using numerous types of adhesive, such as dry-fit glue, grout, mortar, ceramic tape, and more. In addition, there are numerous bathroom materials to choose from, including porcelain, fiberglass, stone, and several types of plastics.

Bathroom remodel is not the only solution for smaller bathrooms. In most cases, the floor can be covered in linoleum or a very soft, felt-like material, in order to create the feel of tile. In many cases, the bathtub can still be covered with new bathroom remodeling ideas like a new showerhead, a unique backsplash, or a custom seat and shower.

If the bathroom is big enough, you can even install light fixtures in it! Some of the popular options include lighted ceramic tile in bathrooms, which can give a warm glow, or decorative light fixtures that hang down from the ceiling. Bathroom fixtures are available in a wide range of styles and colors. These include pendant light fixtures, wall sconces, under-cabinet lights, and vanity lights. Bathroom tile can be sealed to make it water-resistant.

A bathroom remodel can also help you save money by making your bathroom much friendlier and more comfortable than before. You can change your tubs with a new faucet, or you can replace your bathtub fixtures with larger, more luxurious ones, such as whirlpool baths or double basins. You can replace old shower curtains or washbasins with newer, energy-efficient models. You can even change your toilet and bathroom countertops, which will definitely add value to your home when you sell it.

It is not just about the looks of your bathroom when you remodel it. Bathrooms need the right plumbing, flooring, lighting, countertops, cabinets, sinks, and other important fixtures to make your bathroom safe and clean. When you remodel an older home, you should take into consideration the plumbing system of the house. In older bathrooms, the plumbing system was not as advanced as it is today, so it’s important to replace it with the modern fixtures if possible, especially if your bathroom is below grade. Modern plumbing fixtures, including plumbing that has been updated through the use of new pipes and fixtures, are very efficient and will cut down on the water consumption in your home by up to 30 percent.

When you remodel older homes, it is important to take the quality of the flooring, lighting, tiles, and fixtures into consideration. In many cases, it is possible to upgrade your bathtub to a walk-in bathtub if you don’t already have one installed. In some cases, you may be able to replace your existing bathtub with a walk-in bathtub conversion, which will eliminate the bathtub completely, save space, and convert the tub into a wet room instead. You can find walk-in bathtubs at many home stores and in many bathroom specialty shops.

SurePods Close Up: How Streamlined Delivery Processes Benefit Urban Communities

With over 50% of today’s global population living in cities, more building teams find themselves working on projects centered in metro areas However, urban construction projects are no easy task. Issues like tightly spaced jobsites, public safety and rigid timelines are just a few of the challenges builders face when working in densely populated areas.

At SurePods, our goal is to mitigate these issues through prefabricated building methods—namely, through our concurrent construction and streamlined delivery process. With experience in urban builds, we’re covering how these efficient operations can help improve working conditions for urban building teams and a project’s surrounding residents.

Minimize disruption

At one point or another, everyone living in a city has had to endure the not so pleasant effects of traditional construction. Small urban jobsites force developers to maximize all available storage and workspace. Excess materials overflow into the streets and significantly disrupt traffic flows, all of which are compounded by frequent crew arrivals and building material deliveries. With modular construction taking place in a controlled factory environment, extra materials no longer need to be kept onsite and deliveries are reduced.

A just-in-time delivery approach can further minimize disruptions. Developers and contractors can arrange for the bathroom pods to be delivered at off-peak traffic hours when the building team is ready to lift, place and connect the units. And with the ability to deliver and install up to 30+ units per shift at SurePods, fewer truck deliveries are required. This means less time at the jobsite, which in turn greatly reduces public disturbances.

Reduce market related delays

Another way prefabricated construction can reduce disruption is by alleviating any market related delays. There is no need to wait for the building shell to be complete and ready for bathroom pod install. The concurrent construction process makes it possible for the building team to take advantage of favorable market conditions and begin at once. When the pods are complete, modular units can then be held in offsite storage, ready for delivery. This provides developers with further control over potential market uncertainties like material availability and labor shortages that would otherwise disrupt construction timelines and keep projects ongoing in communities.

Save time and resources

Unlike traditional building methods that require multiple contractors, modular solutions like SurePods prefabricated bathrooms also serve as a one-stop-shop for materials, transportation and installation. This is widely beneficial for urban construction projects in densely populated areas, where traffic is constant, and resources and labor are tight. This is evidenced in Prism Apartments, a residential building in the heart of Cambridge, Massachusetts.

With less material deliveries needed for individual bathroom components, urban traffic surrounding the jobsite was significantly reduced (five completed bathroom pods arrived per box truck). Following a successfully coordinated just-in-time delivery, bathroom pods were ready for a seamless “plug-and-play” installation. Better yet, by reducing trade labor resources and eliminating the need for rework, SurePods delivered 159 prefabricated bathroom pods directly to the site. This helped save the project team $2,500 per bathroom and eliminated 10 days of onsite labor per bathroom.

“Do You Want It After Me?” – Who Does & Who Doesn’t Share The Bath Water?

Coronation Street fans took to Twitter last night to express their horror and despair at street favourite Tyrone, as he asked his partner Alina a very contentious question.

After discussing the whereabouts of a Weatherfield teddy bear – that was bought for their unborn child – the Corrie stalwart said “do you want it after me?” when referring to the bath water he was just about to lie in!

This sparked a furious debate on Twitter and beyond, with many people left reeling at the thought of Alina sharing Tyrone’s bath water.

But, taking a dip in the tub after your partner isn’t as uncommon as you think!

In a recent survey we found that almost 1-in-5 of 35-44 year olds (Tyrone’s age group) actually shared their bath water regularly.

The figures drop off for younger (18-24) and more elderly age groups (65+) – but it would seem sharing the bath water is not as uncommon as the Twittersphere would have us believe.

Why Share The Bath Water?

There could be several reasons for sharing a bath with your partner.

There’s the obvious romantic evening you could enjoy with a glass or two of the bubbly stuff.

A couple sharing a bath together

But we think Tyrone’s approach is more about saving on the water bill and that he is perhaps a little more water conscious than we give him credit for!

So, to find out who WILL and who WILL NOT sit in someone else’s muck – we asked the residents of 15 cities in the UK & Northern Ireland who does and who doesn’t share a bath!

Who Is Sharing Bath Water?

As Weatherfield is a suburb of the great city of Manchester, it would be remiss of us to start anywhere else.

And, it would appear that Tyrone is not alone on the bath sharing idea, as 21.3% of those Mancunians polled said they had no issue with sharing their bath time.

However, it was Belfast that came out on top – by a solitary 0.1% – as 21.4% of those asked in Northern Ireland said they were happy to dip in after their partners.

Who Isn’t Sharing Bath Water?

Those UK residents sharing the sentiments of many a Corrie fan – and who are not too happy to jump in someone else’s filth – are the people of Edinburgh; with just 4.5% of those polled saying they are happy to share the tub.

Elsewhere, Scousers & Nottinghamians are not big fans of their partners’ leftover bath water either, with just 7% of Liverpudlians and 6.6% of Nottingham residents sharing a bath.

So, who loves a bath share and who doesn’t?

Check out the graphic below to see which age groups love a shared bath.

And discover which city residents near you are not averse to dipping their toes – and everything else – in their beloved’s leftover bath water!

Do You Share Your Bath Water?

How do you feel about sharing your bath water with your partner?

Is it something you do to save water, or do you do it for some other reason?

Let us know if you support Tyrone’s stance on your partner jumping in the bath after you, and tell us if you’re #TeamBath or #TeamShower!
